THe "rag" comes from how you sew the front...the seams to "rag" up when washed giving it a unique look. This is a great lap quilt. And it comes with it's own tote bag! I used the same fabric for the tote that I used in the quilt. When not using the quilt, you can just put it tote and store. Or use the tote as you wish! Two gifts in one.
